Rebecca Bogaers has been working as a PhD student at the Brain Research and Innovation Centre (BRaIC) since September 2018. To obtain the degree of Doctor at the Tilburg University, she defended her PhD dissertation ‘Stigma as a barrier to sustainable employment and well-being of workers with mental health issues and illnesses: A mixed methods study in the Dutch Military’, on the 23rd of June, 2023.
Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, Rebecca studied the effects of stigma by examining two important decisions that military personnel with mental health issues and illnesses (MHI) face: i) the decision of whether or not to seek treatment and ii) the decision of whether or not to disclose their MHI to a supervisor. Additionally, she examined the effects of stigma and these choices on sustainable employment and well-being at work of military personnel with MHI.
The defence took place on Friday the 23rd of June 2023 in the Aula at Tilburg University.
